Paper Artistry of Phillip Valdez

Paper Artistry of Phillip Valdez features Phillip's personal paper sculpture work and the images;  the artists, random flotsam and jetsam that inspire him.

Phillip Valdez was born in New Mexico to a jackalope and an alien. Having earned a college scholarship in engineering from NASA he opted for partying his way through the first 5 years of higher learning, eventually earning a degree in Design and Illustration after moving to Seattle, WA in 1993.

In 1996 he created his first mask on a whim and won first place at the Seattle Art Museum Masquerade Ball, with the mask he made for his wife earning second place.

Phillip began creating masks in earnest at the request of his wife, to be used in her photography. This collaboration led to several creative series including the Tarot of Masks and the Dream Masquerade series.

Phillip is cerrently employed as a technical illustrator and spends his precious free time working on various creative projects. All the masks are made from heavy paper and glue, with Phillip's natural engineering abilities transforming these simple tools into amazing art.

DudeCraft

Guys who knit, girls who weld, it’s all the same on DudeCraft which started by Paul Overton - a prolific blogger, maker, writer, and ukulele player living in Durham, NC. DudeCraft represents daily fresh hand-made contents with a different kind of tribe in the world of making things, intentionally blurring the lines between, art, craft, engineering, and the good old “Can Do” spirit like papercut portraits, cycling cap or mini LP record gift tags.

Toy-A-Day

Inspiration from Skull-A-Day, Joe make his wonderful year-long project called Toy-A-Day whereby he will be designing, constructing and posting a new paper toy from a basic template each day for one year. So there'll be 365 toys at the end of the 365th day. Alot popular characters or celebrities were covered by Joe: Iron Man, Spiderman, Super Mario, Hello Kitty or Indiana Jones, William Shakespeare and a whole lot more. If you want a certain character to be considered just send a message to Joe and he'll work it on it. Let's check em' out.

Crafty Lady Abby

Crafty Lady Abby is a home of crafter and artist Abby Davis, a co-editor on Skull-A-Day, showing people how to make things with lots of tutorials. Abby joined Skull-A-Day 4.0 - Dia de la Abby with posts and related tutorials that she made from June 3, 2010 - June 3rd, 2011.

Skull-A-Day

Skull-A-Day is an ongoing online art project/blog created by artist Noah Scalin. For its first year the site consisted of daily skull art creations made by Noah as well as weekly submissions by fans of the project. After Noah finished his project, he has continued to post daily images of skulls created by fans to the site.

Noah started by making an orange paper skull on June 4th, 2007 and posting it online saying, "I'm making a skull a day for a year". On June 2, 2008, Noah made his official last skull #365, though an additional skull labeled #365.25 was posted the day after since 2007 was a leap year. On June 3, 2008 the site was dubbed Skull-A-Day 2.0 and Noah began posting original skull art submissions from readers of the site daily.

In October 2008 a book based on the Skull-A-Day, featuring 150 images from the first half of the project, was published by Lark Books. It's called SKULLS.

June 3rd, 2009 marked the start of Skull-A-Day 3.0 in which the project continued to feature daily skull submissions, but with the addition of two new site editors: Skull-A-Day überfans Tatman and Citizen Agent.

June 3rd, 2010 marked the start of Skull-A-Day 4.0 in which the project continues to feature daily skull submissions, but with the addition of one more site editor: Abby AKA Azurafae.

PostSecret

PostSecret is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren, in which people mail their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard. Select secrets are then posted on the PostSecret website which is updated every sunday, or used for PostSecret's books or museum exhibits.

In October 2007, the PostSecret Community was launched (www.postsecretcommunity.com). Questions have been raised about how the forum affects the anonymity of the PostSecret project, but for those involved on the Community board, there seems to be a positive response of people who haven't sent in a postcard or haven't seen their secret on the site sharing their secrets with other PostSecret fans.
